The Better with Age Podcast
What's New About Growing Old?
Better with Age is a narrative documentary-style show, highly produced, and story-driven, that presents a new way of looking at growing older. Each episode highlights an aspect of aging (the challenges and the benefits) relayed by a storyteller or expert that offers listeners a roadmap to navigate the road ahead. It’s part personal storytelling, part interview show, and part social commentary that confronts preconceived notions about aging and inspires listeners to make the most of the life we have left.
Episode 1 - The Healing Power of Song
Before Covid-19 shut down the globe, Beth Wilmurt, a performer and choir director in San Francisco, barely had time to eat. In addition to leading multiple choirs for senior citizens and children, she was also in the midst of directing a play for MFA students, and preparing for an intergenerational concert. But when she tried to transition 100 older adult singers from a live choir to a virtual choir and familiarize each member with Zoom, she nearly waved the white flag. In this episode, Wilmurt explains how technology helped transform quarantine frustration into beauty, art, and connection.
