Hello. Hilary Hattenbach here.

I'm the winner of the 2016 Mona Schreiber Prize for Humorous Fiction for “One Last Request,” a short story about two old-timers who try to fulfill a buddy’s dying wish to be fed to the alligators in the Florida Everglades and the co-author of the The Kitchen Decoded Cookbook (Skyhorse 2014). Designed to teach readers how to prepare delicious meals with all the dusty kitchen equipment stashed in cabinets, The Kitchen Decoded Cookbook was recognized by Buzzfeed in 2017 as one of  “21 Cookbooks That Are Actually Worth the Money,” and by Bustle.com as an “Essential Cookbook To Get You Through Every Dinner Party, Holiday and Brunch Ever.”

My work has been featured in Los Angeles Magazine, Business Insider, emmy Magazine, Damn Mag, Entropy magazine, Erma Bombeck's Writers' Workshop Blog, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and The Eastsider. I’m currently putting the finishing touches on my memoir, Better With Age, about a self ascribed “old soul” who learns everything she needs to know about aging from the pros.

As a live storyteller, I've performed in front of large audiences including a coveted slot in the NPR station KPCC’s Unheard LA Storytelling series in 2017. In addition, I had a piece featured in a story segment on KPCC’s Take Two radio show in 2017 and later that year, I was interviewed as an audience member on Paula Poundstone’s podcast.

In my role as a marketing strategist, I developed award-winning campaigns for a number of entertainment and lifestyle brands, including The Walt Disney Company, Universal Pictures, Focus Features, 20th Century Fox, Universal Pictures, STX, Amazon Studios, and SISTER. I also donned my marketing cap to support the release of The Kitchen Decoded Cookbook and forged partnerships with several featured brands, including, Cuisinart, Microplane, OXO, and Le Creuset, securing retail and social promotion on their channels.
